Copyright Statement


Unless otherwise noted, the contents of Indiana State Sycamore Scholars (ISys) are made freely available to the public by the contributing institutions for use in research or teaching.  For these purposes, a single copy of any material available on this site may be freely downloaded (or printed) without prior permission.  Any other use, including mounting on other systems, commercial use, or other forms of reproduction or distribution, requires permission from Indiana State Sycamore Scholars and/or the owner.

Materials may be referenced, printed, or linked to for teaching and research purposes, and should be cited in standard bibliographic style with reference to the owning institution.

All items may be protected by the U.S. Copyright Law.  For more information on copyright see the United States Copyright Office website at http://www.copyright.gov.  Usage of some items may also be subject to additional restrictions imposed by the copyright owner and/or the owning institution. Please contact the owning institution for additional information regarding the copyright status of individual items. 

Owning institutions are eager to hear from individuals with additional copyright information about individual items, or from copyright owners who are not properly identified so that we may include the most appropriate information for our users.   

Owning institutions are responsible for following Copyright Law and for securing copyright and/or permissions as appropriate for all items prior to adding material to the database.  Indiana State Sycamore Scholars is responsible for securing appropriate copyright and/or permissions for its own items, and is not responsible for items added by other institutions. 


Notice and Take Down Procedure


Indiana State University abides by the federal Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) by responding to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the DMCA and other applicable laws. As part of the response, we may remove or disable access to materials residing on a site that is controlled or operated by Indiana University that is claimed to be infringing, in which case we will make a good-faith attempt to contact the person who submitted the affected material so that they may make a counter notifications, also in accordance with the DMCA.

The Indiana State University official designated to respond to allegations of copyright infringement on the part of individuals at Indiana University (any campus), in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, is identified below, along with contact information.

The act requires the complainant to include certain information in a complaint, and providing that information in the initial contact may help speed resolution of the complaint.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act


The Digital Millennium Copyright Act specifies that all infringement claims must be in writing (either electronic mail or paper letter) and must include the following elements:

  • a physical or electronic signature; identification of the infringed work; identification of the infringed material; contact information for the complainant, e.g. address, telephone number, electronic mail address;

  • a statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner or the law; and

  • a statement that the information contained in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
