Guell to the table was made and passed, 6-0-0, (Murphy/Kiger). Presented an overview of the Task Force for the First Year, (TAFFY), report. TAFFY was an outgrowth of the work being done by John Gardner from Brivard, NC on college First Year Experience. Gardner is working with numerous Universities, including ISU to establish and evaluate the first year experience. The work resulted in 23 recommendations. Primary recommendations include: 1.) The bringing together of all things related to student services into one physical and budgetary entity. (Student Success Implementation Program). 2.) University wide curricular programs, Knowing Sycamores, Honors, General Education, McNair, etc. 3.) Restructure 1st Year academic advising based upon data driven realizations. There exists a body of entry students with GPA’s and incomplete Core 40 that enter the University. These students do better when they go through the AOP. Data shows retention is higher and their GPA is higher by a significant amount. Academic advising in close proximity with the other factions brings about better results for student success and retention. Placing advising, tutoring, academic help, etc. together provides needed support. Typically, first year students do not see much support for their academic success. A University College would not change how, or by whom, students are advised. It is logical for the colleges to name individuals to advise. There is no data to support professional advisors. The various college advisors would be simply located together. The “mission” is to give every ISU student the opportunity and tools to succeed. It is imperative to also serve the 20% of students that are distance students. The possible structure of a three or a two unit organization was also presented. How this is addressed will need to be determined. The CAAC executive Committee will meet to formulate recommendations for the committee. It was noted that each college unit should also weigh in on the proposal along with the General Education Council. 8. The committee adjourned at 3:40 PM. The next scheduled meeting will be Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Myers Tech TC 101E. Respectfully Submitted David J.
