Present:  Brian Ceh, Bill Clyburn, Julie Fine, Rocco Gennaro, Betsy Hine, Susan Hoffman, Harriet Hudson, Larry Kunes, Rich Schneirov

 

Absent: Maury Miller

 

The organizational meeting of the Faculty Affairs Committee was convened and call to order at 4:00 by Harriet Hudson.  The first order of business was to elect a chair, vice-chair and secretary.  Harriet Hudson was elected chair by acclamation; Rich Schneirov was elected vice-chair by acclamation; Betsy Hine was elected secretary by acclamation. A regular time to meet was discussed and it was determined that Thursdays at 3:30 would allow the most people to participate and the committee will meet in the Myers Technology Center, room to be scheduled by Bill Clyburn  (Note: The room number is TC314.).  The chair will e-mail a schedule of meetings and the next meeting will be October 5.  (Note: The chair e-mailed the following meeting dates for the fall semester: October 5, October 19, November 2, November 21 (this is a Tuesday, but Executive Committee will not meet then.  Thursday the 16th is Senate), and December 7.)

 

One issue was brought up from last year and the document was distributed by Rich Schneirov.  In the document on Special Purpose/ Part-time Faculty related to grievance procedures, which was approved by Senate Feb. 16, 2006, there remained some changes to be made in Section II, page 13, Article 14.  Wherever “faculty members (tenured or untenured)” appears that should be replaced with “tenured, tenure-track, special purpose, and part-time temporary faculty.” 

Action:  Moved and 2nd to accept this language as presented.  Discussion: There was some question about the terminology of part-time itself but since we are to use the current handbook language that question would need to be addressed in another way.  Question was called. Motion passed 7-0-0. 

 

The meeting adjourned at 5:00.
