Approval of the minutes Feb. 22 meeting. Approved (5-0-0). 2. Reports: Academic Affairs liaison: Bob English reported. There is a sexual harassment video/program available and the Provost’s office wondered if it should be made available (it is available online) to faculty. He asked if FAC would be interested in recommending this and FAC said yes. He will pass this by the Executive Committee. Executive Committee liaison: Harriet Hudson reported for Arthur Halpern. She attended the Executive Committee which voted unanimously in favor of FAC’s majority opinion, agreeing that the practice of student representation on faculty governance organizations was inconsistent. It will be investigated further and brought to Senate. A new constitution will have to be developed for the new college. Chairperson: Harriet Hudson reported that she and Bob English have been looking at the Faculty Award issue. They have been confining their work to the 3 main awards of teaching, research and service. They have also been exploring how an external review component can be incorporated. They are surveying the other American Association of State Colleges and Universities schools with 4 questions to try to determine how other institutions recognize faculty and if they give comparable awards, especially looking at whether or not they use external reviewers for such awards. 3. Open Discussion: College of Education Congress is currently dealing with developing a faculty integrity policy to correlate with their student integrity policy and that might be relevant to the above issue of sexual harassment. This seems relevant in the current climate on campus where some don’t feel safe in many situations. 4. New Business: Linda Sperry distributed several documents related to course evaluation: last year’s FAC document on online course evaluations that was not acted on by Senate; an example of a course evaluation from Blackboard; and information from a website about FAST (Free Assessment Summary Tool) which could be an alternate resource to SIRS as an assessment tool. See http://www.getfast.ca for information about this tool. FAC should look at these documents and the website and bring some recommendations to the next meeting. The next meetings are Mar 29 at 3:30; Apr 12 at 1:00, all in RO 237A unless otherwise notified. Meeting adjourned at 5:05.
