Oversee the Faculty Scholarship Chia-An Chao reported that this subcommittee had met and there are two unresolved issued concerning the scholarship: the maximum credit hours of recipients and the issue of students who have previously received full-tuition scholarships. Ideas for promotion of the scholarship to students included direct email to qualified students encouraging them to apply and also possibly having a past recipient interviewed by the Statesman. C. Facilitate student attendance at standing committee meetings It was revealed that student members for some of the standing committees were not being informed of times and locations of meetings, in particular for administrative affairs and research. Committees need to ensure that student members are informed so they can attend and contribute. D. Provide a greater academic challenge for ISU students; Grade inflation D. Moulton suggested that faculty from each college should be involved since there could be wide differences among the various colleges. He suggested that C. Hoffman could put out a call to the faculty senate for people to serve in this capacity. C. Baker suggested that we could have OPSIRE generate data for us. Sharon Gick has provided data showing the average graduate and undergraduate cumulative GPAs for the spring semesters of 1999 through 2006 have risen. It should be noted that the Office of Registration and Records provides student data to OPSIRE, and S. Gick reported that GPAs are rising. It was also suggested that we could look at grades given in in specific courses over time. E. Eliminate the printed schedule of classes. J.
