Barton-Bellessa, E. Hampton, M. Haque, L. O’Laughlin Absent: Stan Buchanan, B. Corcoran, B. El-Mansour Speaking Seats: W. Barratt (Administrative Fellow, SoGS), J. Gatrell (Graduate Dean), H. Hudson (CAS), Guests: 1. Call to Order: M. Boyer called the meeting to order at 8:06 AM. 2. Agenda: The agenda, with modifications, was adopted by acclamation. 3. Minutes: J. Gatrell moved approval of minutes from 12.04.08; M. Haque seconded. Minutes were approved. Vote: 3-0-2. 4. Old/Unfinished/Ongoing Business a. W. Barratt kindly agrees to record minutes in absence of B. Corcoran. 5. New Business a. L. O'Laughlin moved and S. Barton seconded approval of a new policy: “Admission as an ISU Senior.” i. Policy states: “A senior student at Indiana State University with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or above may be granted permission to enroll in a limited amount of 500-level graduate courses with approval of the student's advisor, graduate program representative, and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. Once approved, the registration form must be taken to the Office of Registration and Records for processing.” ii. The policy is approved. Vote: 4-0-2. 6. Reports: a. Chairperson (M. Boyer): i. Dean Gatrell and Liz O’Laughlin will represent Graduate Council at this week’s Faculty Senate meeting regarding the Electronic Thesis & Dissertation policy discussion. b. Faculty Senate Liaison’s Report (T. Sawyer was unable to be present): i. No Report c. Registrar’s Report (S. Gick was unable to be present): i. No Report d. Administrative Report (J. Gatrell, SoGS Dean): i. The “Application to take Preliminary Exams” will be removed as that is no longer a practice and the School of Graduate Studies web site will be accordingly adjusted. Students will be directed by the web site to their advisor and program coordinator for the application. ii. International recruiting trips to India and to the People's Republic of China will occur this spring. iii. Enrollments for this spring semester are slightly down and the final numbers will be available later on 01/20/09. Many ISU programs are at maximum capacity so growth in these programs is unlikely. e. Graduate Student Report: (Student representatives were not present.) i. No Report 7. Upcoming Business a. The next meeting of the GC will be Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 8:00 AM. 8.
